In the second half of the 15th century, a number of Orthodox states and peoples in Asia Minor and Balkans were finally won by the Turks. Initially, the sufficiently tolerant policy of the conquerors in relation to the Christian population of the empire eventually turned into a heavy bondage. The book presented to the reader contains historical and hagiographic texts that tell about the life and exploits of Christians on the lands of the Ottoman Empire (Macedonia, Thrace, Epirus, Crete, Pont, Small Asia, Cyprus, Serbia, Bulgaria), about the real fate of people during the years of Turkish rule (XV-XIX centuries) and after liberation (XX century).
Most texts are published in Russian for the first time. The compilers tried to provide the book with the necessary explanations and comments, as well as a dictionary of specific concepts.
