Having landed in Normandy in the spring of 1944, the Americans – Lieutenant Jets, Sergeant Bing, Captain Troy, Private Tolachyan and military journalist Karen – sincerely believe in the “Crusade” of American democracy against fascism. However, they have not only full dangers and unforeseen situations of military everyday life, but also the search for an answer to the difficult question: who they are – warriors -liberators or simple mercenaries that cover the fraud and the vain ambitions of their commanders.
Stefan Gam (1913-2001) is a German writer, the author of several dozen novels both in English and in German, from 1935-1952 he lived in the USA, during the Second World War, in the rank of officer of the American army, together with the allies, participated in the landing in Normandy.
