By the beginning of the war, Italy seriously claimed dominance in the Mediterranean Sea, possessing the most powerful ships at this theater of military operations – the magnificent battleships of Littorio, Vittorio Veneto and Roma, surpassing everything that allies had. However, the Italian admirals could not dignily dispose of these masterpieces of shipbuilding – the effectiveness of the latest super -preciporials of the Duche was close to zero: during the whole war they recorded only one (!) Hailing into an enemy ship, and even then by accident.
